iPastelet Maker for iPhone

iPastelet Maker for iPhone
The iPastelet Maker from Tom King turns often used (and typed) text snippets, e.g. your username, website..., into a piece of JavaScript that you can bookmark and use as a paste tool on your iPhone, after you have synced the corresponding bookmark to your iPhone. Just great. Saves me from typing my username, email address... a few dozen times a day.

Time to go, Zeit zu gehen on DVD

Time to go, Zeit zu gehen on DVD
The German language movie Time to go, Zeit zu gehen just came out on DVD. This documentary on dying in the Hospiz Rennweg in Vienna, Austria is a moving film on one of the greatest taboos of our time. BTW: there is an English language press kit at this link. Unfortunately the subtitles on the DVD are only available in German, not in English as in the original movie.

Hans Janitschek died

Hans Janitschek died
On 2/21 Hans Janitschek passed away. According to Austrian newspaper Krone he broke down in front of the UNO headquarter in New York. He was 73. I had the honor and pleasure to know him almost exactly 17 years now, since I met him the first time in New York city in January 1991. I will miss him.
Just found out about the funeral: it will take place on 3/12 at 2pm in St. Martin near Lofer in Austria. The "Seelenmesse" will be read on 3/13 at 11am in the Jesuitenkirche, Dr. Ignaz Seipel Platz in Vienna, Austria.
Update: the New York Times has a guestbook, that is open for at least one year and at iCastNews.com you find quite a lot of the interviews he did including his farewell message.

Ziphone, the one step jailbreak and unlock for iPhones
With Ziphone you can easily activate, jailbreak and unlock all current iPhones up to version 1.1.3. Update: sorry for using the warrior picture without credentials. I did the posting automatically via email to Flickr to Blogger, so it automatically used my, actually Zibri´s picture, on Flickr. Now I edited some of the HTML manually, so it links back to the original picture at Zibri´s Flickr account.

wine event at Bang & Olufsen store in Vienna

wine event at Bang & Olufsen store in Vienna
On 2/7 there was a wine tasting at the Bang & Olufsen store at Neuer Markt 9 in Vienna, Austria. Apart from the excellent buffet I got the chance to try out five different Rothschild wines and play around with the new Beo5 remote control. It is surprisingly small and convenient. In the base price of more than 500 Euros there is included the first programming of the remote by a store technician. Subsequent changes can be made at Bang & Olufsen stores, or you head to Beoworld, where there should be lots of information how to program it on your own.

waiting for a new Mac to buy

waiting for a new Mac to buy
As much as I would like to buy a new Mac, I guess I will have to wait another few months. Right now I am still stuck on my old PowerBook 15" with PowerPC chip, MacOS 10.4 and Classic, so I can run Hypercard. Hopefully, there wil be a new HyperCard soon, so I can finally switch to new hardware. But given the fact, that USB3, FireWire3200, WirelessUSB, eSATA and internal 3G communications are still missing from Apple´s lineup, I might use my old 15" PowerBook for another few months, eventually.

FileMaker Bento

FileMaker Bento
FileMaker introduced Bento, which they call a personal database. In reality it is nothing more than a nice graphical front end to the built in AddressBook and iCal databases on MacOSX 10.5 with optional fields that stay invisible to AB and iCal. Compared to AB it has nice import capabilities, but the export currently allows only CSV right now.
