Apple introduces MacBook Air
Today Apple introduced the MacBook Air. 13" display with LED backlight and 1280*800 pixels resolution, USB2, headphone jack and miniDVI out (up to 1920*1200), internal 1,8" hard drive with 80GB or SSD flash with 64GB (and 1000$ more cost!), 2 GB RAM, full backlit keyboard, IEEE 802.11a/b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 with EDR and 3 pounds weight for less than 2000$. No internal optical drive (optional external USB powered SuperDrive for 99$), no Ethernet (optional USB-Ethernet dongle for 29$) and believe it or not NO slot for built in 3G WAN card (HSDPA/HSUPA, CDMA, LTE...).
P.S.: in the evening I attended the Microsoft Office 2008 launch party (and all the other parties, too!) and the catering in the Yerba Buena Center by Melons Catering and Events was among the best food I ever ate in San Francisco.

Yesterday on 1/12 there was the opening of the 20goto10 ANSI art exhibition at 679 Geary in San Francisco. You can buy ANSI art for 200$, which gives you a small computer with VGA output and SD slot to display the art, and the ANSI art itself stored on a flash card. I also saw a Chumby there, a small personal internet player with Linux, WiFi, touchscreen and motion sensor, that can run widgets written in Adobe Flash Lite 3.0 for 180$.

Art in San Francisco

Art in San Francisco
When I visited 77 Geary Street, 2nd floor, San Francisco for the Robert Altman opening, I found another art gallery on the same floor, just next to it: the Togonon Gallery. They currently show a mixture of different artists, but the piece of art made entirely out of wooden ice cream holders impressed me the most.

Apple announces faster Mac Pro and Xserve

Apple announces faster Mac Pro and Xserve
A week before Macworld expo in San Francisco, but at the same time as CES is happening in Las Vegas, Apple today announced their new Mac Pro and Xserve. No word on BlueRay DVD or any competing high definition DVD format. I guess they either wait for their new Cinema displays or skip high definition DVDs altogether and push downloadable high definition content ASAP.

P.S.: sorry for the huge image above. As much as I like the iPhone, but having a browser without being able to save (e.g. a picture from the web) locally to the iPhone just sucks. How are you supposed to do blogging from the iPhone? Even from my old Treo it was possible to save a JPEG picture from the web locally, and then send it to Flickr and Blogger for publishing it. The iPhone could be such a wonderful device, if Apple would not cripple it so badly. The lack of select-copy-paste and the inability of the browser to locally save files makes it impossible for me to use the iPhone as my primary and only phone. Apple really becomes the new Microsoft with tons of money, but crippled products :-(
Update: I finally managed to take a picture of the Xserve with the camera of the iPhone to mail it. Which reminds me, that I might be able to do a screen shot on the iPhone and send it via email. Complicated, but should work. But I always thought using Apple products should make life easier?
