my mobile office in the coming months

Treo650 and MDA4, possibly the Nokia N91 as an wireless "modem" for a nice tablet from Apple.

Nokia770. First I thought about getting myself a Samsung Nexio XP40 or at least a XP30, but I guess they won't be available anytime anywhere...

Sanyo SD camcorder/camera, eventually the Pentax Optio MX4 for the 10 times zoom compared to only six times on the Sanyo.

Airport Internet sharing in MacOSX 10.4 server

I just found this hint (as always!) at my daily visit to http://www.macosxhints.com. No more need for third party software or using the CLI to get the last missing feature from MacOS X client in the server version.

Nine2Five Report for Hypercard incompatible with MacOSX 10.4!

So if you rely on the power of Reports for Hypercard from Nine2Five, DON´T upgrade to MacOSX 10.4. Unfortunately this means pretty soon Hypercard users, who also use Reports can´t buy new Macs anymore. What a shame for Apple to let one of their greatest applications ever done to die slowly!

Treo650 let´s you turn off backlight

After having my own Palm Treo650 GSM now for more than a week I finally found out some details about it´s LCD. It definitively IS reflective, which means it´s perfectly usable in bright sunlight, just as on my trusty old Palm Tungsten W. And compared to the Treo600 you CAN turn off the backlight on the Treo650, which saves a lot of power and is totally useless in bright sunlight. So battery life of the Treo650 should be way better than on the Treo600, possibly as great as on the Tungsten W.

BTW: the missing reflectiveness of the Treo 600 LCD was one of my main reasons, why I didn´t switch completely from the Tungsten W to the Treo600. The other reason was VersaMail on the Tungsten W, which just worked great for me, whereas the built in email client on the Treo600 was nearly useless for me. I just used it for posting via email, but as my main email client on the Treo600 I used MarkSpace Mail, which was quite ok, but cannot see the email addresses in the Palm address book, if you have more than a few thousand contacts stored. So having a Palm Treo650 I think I can finally retire my Tungsten W and Treo600 now.

PDF2RTFService for MacOS X 10.4

PDF2RTFService is a free filter service that enables many Cocoa applications, for example TextEdit or Apple Pages, to open Adobe PDF, PostScript and Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) files as paginated rich text documents. The application just needs to be able to read rich text documents. The actual conversion is done by Quartz and the PDFKit of Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger, PDF2RTFService post-processes and paginates the output for better results. Great for converting all those PDFs to mobile devices without the need for Adobes email service to do the conversion.

UWB will be Bluetooth compatible

UWB will be Bluetooth compatible

The Bluetooth Special Interest Group (SIG) announced, that Ultra-wideband (UWB) will be Bluetooth compatible. Great to see that they join forces. The more new technologies with backward compatibility, the better. One of the nice things on DVD technology is the ability to read CDs. Now if the same happened to Flash format cards, so that we can finally get rid of SmartMedia, XD, MemoryStick...
