VGA PocketPC without VGA software support?

It seems, that the new VGA PocketPCs from Dell, HP, FujitsuSiemens, Casio... are not capable to fully use the 640*480 screen without third party software. And if you use any of these patches, you have to do a soft reset everytime you switch from VGA to QVGA. As there is no hardware alternative to the VGA PocketPCs right now, I guess I will have to use Linux to make them usable. If only Apple could build and sell an OS for these handheld devices...

You, and most others, don't understand the purpose of the new high DPI devices.

The screen is almost the same size, but the number of pixels has been doubled. This gives a much higher DPI that makes text (especially with ClearType) and (new) icons look much better.

I'd rather use the extra DPI than the extra pixels.

There are some drawbacks as you mention, but I guess the support for VGA in Windows Mobile 2003 Second Edition was rushed out because of pressure from the device manufacturers and perhaps developers.

I hope the more rich VGA support will come in "Magneto" (Windows Mobile 2005?).

Let's wait and see...

There are 2 possibilities to use the extra DPI, either make the screen sharper and better looking, or show more information at once.
I for myself prefer to see as much information as possible, so less scrolling is required!
