Vienna International Fine Art & Antiques Fair

Vienna International Fine Art & Antiques Fair
From 10/28 to 11/5 the Vienna International Fine Art & Antiques Fair takes place at Palais Ferstel and Palais Niederösterreich in Vienna, Austria.
Chavin Update: I also saw this sculpture from Mexico at the booth of Galerie Chavin. Supposedly it is more than 2500 years old, but looks as modern and stylish as a Citroen DS.

Book: Die neue Renaissance (Get Back In the Box. Innovations from the Inside Out)

Book: Die neue Renaissance (Get Back In the Box. Innovations from the Inside Out)
One of the rare cases, where the title of the German translation is better, at least IMHO, than the English original. Die neue Renaissance from Douglas Rushkoff explains a lot about the coming networked world, where the only constant is change.

Book: 50 einfache Dinge, die Sie tun können, um die Welt zu retten. Und wie Sie dabei Geld sparen.

Book: 50 einfache Dinge, die Sie tun können, um die Welt zu retten. Und wie Sie dabei Geld sparen.
Improving the world (saving is a little bit of an exageration) and saving money at the same time is the main theme of the German language book 50 einfache Dinge, die Sie tun können, um die Welt zu retten. Und wie Sie dabei Geld sparen. Many common knowledge chapters, at least for me, but some parts of this book contain really novel and useful ideas.

MacOS runs in 512*342 on MDApro

MacOS run in 512*342 on MDApro
Since 10/19 a few minutes before midnight, the Mini vMac port by Fabio Concas runs on my T-mobile MDApro in a really usable 512*342 pixels resolution. For me this is the future of computing. A handheld device with wireless connectivity (UMTS, GPRS, WLAN, Bluetooth...), a great OS (MacOS 6.08 or MacOS 7) with thousands of stable and time tested applications (HyperCard...) and flash storage on SD card with a few Gigabytes. There are still some rough edges. Right now no Command, Option and Control keys on the MDApro keyboard work in the MacOS emulation, but even as it is right now, this is so much better than any computing environment, I have ever seen. BIGGEST WOW FACTOR!!!

BeoLink for MacOSX

BeoLink for MacOSX
I just found out, that there is a BeoLink software for MacOSX called BM-Link, which lets you access the music stored on your Mac via BeoPort (USB and audio out) and a Beo4 remote control on BeoSound 9000, BeoSound 3000, BeoSound 3200, BeoCenter 1 or BeoCenter 2.
The BeoPort box also makes it possible to connect Bang & Olufsen speakers directly so while working on the Mac, you can listen to music in the Bang & Olufsen speakers. By connecting an IR receiver to the BeoPort box, you can control the volume of the connected Power Link speakers and navigate in the music lists using the Beo4 remote control. Without the IR eye you can only control the Powerlink speakers from the BM-link application.

Mobilkom Austria integrates GSM and SIP telephony

Mobilkom Austria integrates GSM and SIP telephony
Mobilkom Austria announced a friendly customer trial called A1 over IP, which integrates the biggest Austrian mobile phone network with over 3 million customers and the world of SIP based IP-telephony. When somebody calls you on your A1 (+43664) mobile phone number, your mobile phone AND your SIP client rings. When you call somebody via SIP client, they see your A1 (+43664) mobile phone number via CallerID. IMHO, this is one of the most disruptive technologies, I have seen this year. Pretty amazing. The future starts now! BTW: Mobilkom Austria is said to start a HSUPA trial before the end of this year.
Update: on 11/17 Mobilkom Austria showed live HSUPA in Vienna and said they will deliver real HSUPA services in the beginning of 2007.
