MakeMKV for using Blue-ray discs on MacOSX

With MakeMKV you can use Blue-ray discs on MacOSX, if you have a Blue-ray drive. Convert video that you own into free and patents-unencumbered format that can be played everywhere. MakeMKV is a format converter, otherwise called transcoder. It converts the video clips from proprietary (and usually encrypted) disc into a set of MKV files, preserving most information but not changing it in any way. The MKV format can store multiple video/audio tracks with all meta-information and preserve chapters. There are many players that can play MKV files nearly on all platforms, and there are tools to convert MKV files to many formats, including DVD and Blu-ray discs.

PhotoRec

PhotoRec is free file data recovery software designed to recover lost files including video, documents and archives from hard disks, CD-ROMs, and lost pictures (thus the Photo Recovery name) from digital camera memory. PhotoRec ignores the file system and goes after the underlying data, so it will still work even if your media's file system has been severely damaged or reformatted.

SuperBowl party without football

On 2/7 from 2pm till 9pm there was a private SuperBowl party at the new Internet Archive office on 300 Funston in San Francisco. Instead of the football game only the ads were shown. Highly interesting. Besides food and drinks there was art (panoramic prints!), e-bikes, interesting people and the great architecture of this former church building.
