death of Apple Newton 9 years ago

On 2/27/98 Apple Computer announced, that they would discontinue the Newton. I remember, that I received a personal phone call from a very high level Apple executive a few hours before the official announcement telling me the bad news. Now it is exactly 9 years, that I am looking for a Newton replacement, but unfortunalety, I didn´t find one, yet. Maybe the upcoming iPhone from Apple can be a decent Newton successor, if it will be programmable by third parties, at least through widgets. More infos on Newton at NewtonTalk.net and UNNA.
