new Ovolab Phlink

new Ovolab Phlink

Just installed the newest version of the Ovolab Phlink. It´s a USB-hardware plus software combination to turn a Mac with OSX into a CallerID device, answering machine and voice/fax switch. Everything is customizable via easy to use scripts and AppleScript.

I am interested in getting the 'Phlink' but am not sure if I need something as technical as the Phlink. I have decided to use an old Mac that I have to become my media server that will be on 24/7 and would like to include receiving faxes. I know OS X has the capability to set it up through the preference pane but I need something more as my fax line is on my regular phone line. Currently I have a fax that detects a fax tone and will transfer to the fax , however the internal apple modem I have does not have that capabilty. Is the 'Phlink' "over the top" ?? and if so are there any recommendations?? I should add that I have a small busness and the fax is not used for just personal use. Thanks for any imput.

The nice thing on the Ovolab Phlink is the switching between voice and fax. BTW: I heard rumors, that some Powermac G5s have internal modems, that support voice, too. I will investigate further and post it on my daily blog here.
